Successful Book Arts Workshop
Successful Book Art Workshop!!
Several SDCC graphics students and AIGA members attended a workshop on book arts given by Sybil Rubottom of Bay Park Press. This well-attended (sold out, with a waiting list) event featured instruction on several methods of book making and folding. Students learned some simple folding techniques first, and then made a small book with a concertina (like an accordion) fold. They finished by making a larger, bound book with the pages stitched in place. The larger books had beautiful end papers, covers, and spines, and would make very nice gifts.
The instructor helped everyone through the process, and had solutions for all the inevitable first-timers’ mistakes. Students gained a better understanding of what goes into making a book, and the different methods available for putting it together. This workshop was very helpful for anyone wanting to make a handmade book, or for the student preparing for portfolio class.
Thanks all of you for coming!
